Mobile phones, PDAs and a variety of other mobile devices are now able to access the internet around the world. The internet is no longer the preserve of people with computers – it is now a mobile phenomenon.

Though they fall short of traditional computers in what they are able to display, they are powerful tools, and will continue to evolve.

Just a quick look at the differences in screen sizes will tell you a lot.

Mobile devices do not display websites in the same way that computers do.

Yes, there are a few devices out there that have the capability of displaying all of the content of a web page, but these devices are very expensive and usually require the presence of a WiFi hotspot.

Displaying abbreviated versions of website pages will continue though until such time as these become more widely used.

When using a PDA to upload a website, its obvious that the display is geared to show text which is easy and fast to download.

So, given these facts, don’t you think that its a good idea to cater to these types of internet users? Of course you do!

When you are designing a website, you need to take into account how people will view the site. Simply by choosing a quality web design program, it becomes possible to create a mobile version of your website, with literally several clicks of the mouse.

Once this new website is created, it can be embedded with a few lines of code that will automatically make this the default site for people using mobile devices.

Instead of dealing with creating a new domain name or setting up mirror versions of the site that are to be used by mobile devices, your website will be able to automatically redirect a visitor to a page that is ideally suited for them.

This may not seem like a big deal, and its true that mobile device users are a relatively small portion of internet users, but when it comes to making your business profitable, it pays (quite literally) to reach the widest possible audience.

Transitioning to this technology can be a real pain, but if you invest in the best web design programs, you’ll find the transition as easy as clicking the mouse a couple times.

The mobile website design is the most promising platform for several consumer driven companies. The number of mobile phone users in the world is more than 2.4 billion and out of that nearly 30% of users surf the internet on a regular basis. This is the primary reason for the increasing popularity of mobile web development in fact, many people predicts that the internet browsing will be leap over the usage of the internet browsing on the desktop. A large number of WAP mobile users browse the internet on mobiles but are often faced with the difficulty of improper display and loading of the website.

A mobile website involves special designing and development procedures. Here are some of the points that you need to bear in mind while making mobile web site.

The most primary requirement that one needs to understand is that the web browsing on the computer and the mobile phone have huge difference. Therefore, you need to design a special website so that your customers can have a better accessibility of your website on the mobile phone. For this websites must be set on W3C.

One of the things to avoid for making good mobile website design is to not use tables in the layout as this will not look good on the mobiles. CSS gives maximum compatibility there the mobile web site made on CSS layout is better.

A mobile website can be made better with the usage of XML or XHTML coding and the character encoding set being UTF-8.

Always take into consideration that the mobile phones are available in different sizes with various sizes of screens as well. Make sure that your design is such that it works on most of the screen sizes.

The maximum size of mobile website page is 20 kilobytes and therefore it is better to fit all the content including pictures in that size. This also makes it a challenge for you to include all the important information about your business and products is presented on top the page itself.

Most of all, take care that you design your website such that it is worth the money that the mobile users are spending for surfing your website.

A mobile website version can help potential customers find the information they need as quick as possible without cluttering the smaller display on most smart phones and tablets. But how much will it cost and how do you go about it? There are two main ways to go about this – using a CMS plug in or building a dedicated mobile site.

Whichever method you use it is important to keep the following items in mind about the mobile site

1) Do not aim to have all the information from your main site in it.

2) Should have a link to your full featured site as an option.

3) Make users aware they are using the mobile web version.

4) Keep it simple to access important details such as contact details.

5) Make use of handy links for phone numbers & emails etc so users can simply click to contact.

6) Support all major smart phones and tablets.

7) Don’t get too fancy with music, graphics etc.

Excellent usability and functionality are key.

There are already millions of users who are browsing the internet using certain devices such as the desktop PC and laptop. A high percentage of those users are also trying to access the internet through their phones and they are using mobile websites. However, due to several drawbacks that mobile internet brings, they tend to backslide. This happens when the websites they usually go to are not accessible or does not display on their mobile phones correctly.

How do we remedy this? We should really find a way to design our website in a way that will make it compatible to different mobile devices that we use today. There are fundamental steps that will help in making a better mobile website and these are the significant notes that you have to keep in mind before you build a website.

The first tip is to know what your costumer wants. If you finally find out about this, you have to stick with it. Take note what kind of phone most of them are using then start developing on certain platforms. You might get a problem when it comes to resolutions and dimensions because each mobile phone is different – that means you have to take into consideration how the mobile website will appear on a particular phone model. The shape of the phone should also be considered aside from the resolution and dimension.

You can optimize your content by knowing the common screen dimensions. To avoid other problems, keep your site clean and simple so that your target audience will not be too confused on navigating through the site. Also take note of the different types of mobile users that Google identified – those are the casual surfers, the repeat visitor and “urgent, now” visitor. These visitors have different needs so you have to know if you are able to meet those needs.

If you are done building your mobile website, try to test it many times on different mobile phones. It might work on some but it’s not always applicable to all so it might help if you test and see what’s wrong with or if there is something that you might have missed. If you can’t test on different mobile phones, you can ask help from your friends. Send them an email or survey to find out if there is something you need to change or improve on your site to make it better.

Advertising is up to an all new different degree as mobile marketing strategists steps into the light and offers advertisers the most convenient way of advertising. With varied options and a wider scale of people to reach, mobile marketing has become a hit to old and new businesses.

Topping among all other choices of mobile marketing is creating your very own website for internet surfers to view, having your product advertised to millions of people surfing the net will be a ton of an advantage for your business but having a website that could actually be accessed in personal computers and in mobile phones is a twin success. Mobile marketing strategist from Portland, Oregon confirmed that Yes, there is a huge difference between the two.

PC websites are the ones that is easily accessed with the use of your very own personal computer. You can access it when you have the luxury of having a handy laptop or sitting in front of your desktop computer at your spare time. Viewers of your site could actually have full accessibility to using your website and has the advantage of enjoying the images or videos that you have uploaded to explain the beauty of your product more eagerly. Viewers can also have the opportunity to exploit interactive games or trivia that you have equipped you site with for your viewers amusement and eventually encourage them to try on some of the products that you are promoting.

PC websites on the other hand is different from mobile websites, other businesses often find themselves in shock when having to find out that their website cannot be accessed in the most widely used gadget of today.

Unlike PC websites, mobile websites has to have lesser loads of photos and videos to prevent a longer duration of time for the website to be downloaded on the mobile phone. Photos that goes with the website should be smaller than that of regular photos that you upload to PC websites. Viewers are not that patient when it comes to viewing your product so you have to make sure that accessing your website in a mobile phone will be fast. Navigation is also one of the things that needs to be considered in mobile websites, mobile phones has limited keys and icons to choose from so you have to make sure that it is easy to make your way around the site. Information about your product should be brief and concise, packing up important information in the shortest description possible for the viewer to easily grab the idea that you’re trying to get through.

Mobile phones has variety of uses today and it remains to be the target of many advertisers as it is the most effective tool to aid them in product promotion. Aside from Bluetooth and SMS campaigns, mobile websites comes as a handy marketing strategy that reaches possible clients anywhere in the world. Having a mobile website in addition to your PC accessible website will create an added number of prospective clients and patrons.

Here are 15 tips for a great mobile website:

1. The mobile phones have much smaller screen space and therefore you need to cut down on the amount of information that you can include in the mobile pages.
2. The phones work on much slower bandwidth even if they are on 3G. Your site loads much faster if you have smaller files, few and compact graphics and other elements.
3. Since the capacity of the phones vary widely, use progressive enhancement. This way you will have your site working fine off the most limited browsers but show up really great with the more capable browsers and phones.
4. Attention span on a mobile site is really limited. Include your most salient points – the big hitters -and do not try to tell everything and confuse the reader.
5. You might try this format – powerful headline, a paragraph of introduction text and a few bullet points followed by a call to action.
6. New page loads are taxing on the bandwidth, too much information on a single page is daunting. You have to strike a fine balance.
7. Advertise on the mobile networks. The clicks are still affordable. You can also set up campaigns on AdWords (content display network) with mobiles as the selected target.
8. Always send the clicks to a mobile version of the landing page. Don’t drop the ball by sending the clicks to a desktop landing page which won’t show up clearly on the small screens.
9. Include a link to your main site so that they can see the whole story, if they are not happy with the limited information on the mobile site.
10. Mobile commerce (pay from a mobile – PayPal and phone billing) is picking up very fast. Be ready to take advantage.
11. Make your forms as small as possible. They can’t fill up large forms with the mobile keyboard.
12. Hot tip: Include a touch-to-call or click-to-call button. They are working off a mobile phone after all and calling someone is the most natural thing to do.
13. Build a SMS list. SMS marketing, like email marketing, is a potential winner. However you need to use it responsibly or else, you will go down the email spammer route.
14. You must include a mobile sitemap and submit it to the search engines. How can we forget the search engines? They can send large number of people to your sites after all.
15. Setup auto-sensing and auto-redirection for mobile browsers on the main URL. Don’t split your branding efforts by advertising 2 different URLs.

More and more individuals are riding the mobile wave! Mobile web sites are springing up by the minute and it is entirely up to you to make your mobile site stand out. Here are some helpful tips to make your mobile site a cut above the rest.

Play with Color. Some mobile site builders offer its members extensive color palettes wherein users may experiment with various color combinations when it comes to the color scheme of their mobile sites. Let your WAP site’s colors reflect your personality!

Are you the outgoing type? Let your inner party animal shine by using strong colors like red, aqua and emerald green. Mix these up with even more outrageous tones like orange, purple and gold! If your tastes lean more towards the classics, choose understated pastel tones to bring out that touch of elegance. The idea here is to build a mobile web site that speaks of YOU!

Create a Visual Experience. Make your mobile web site highly visual by using text-wrapping tools that will enable you to insert photographs and wrap text to these images. Images help attract more visitors because they add flavor to your site.

Into photography? Why not build a mobile portfolio of your best photographs? Add brief descriptions for your photos to make it more interesting and personal. Post scanned versions of your artworks and show off that inner Picasso!

Create a Guestbook and encourage friends and potential dates to leave messages for you. If you are building a mobile website for business purposes, one way of generating new contacts is through the Guestbook. Encourage visitors to leave contact details and requests for you.

Mobile site builders also feature tools that will keep your viewers hooked: POLLS. Create surveys! It could be a survey that will help you figure out the latest consumer trends or it could be one for purely entertainment purposes!

you have a passion for fashion? Create a mobile style hive! Upload the latest in style and fashion. Post the latest news about this year’s fashion icons. Create polls and predict what the next fashion trend will be!
